I told myself today that I'm worth at least a quarter of million dollars or more! & my job is what I do and not in anyway shape or form who I really am and I have far greater value to offer than I have allowed myself to be in the past. I'm ok.

Please let me correct the name from Jessica to Novalena My apologies Novalena. I bounced from another blog and mislabeled the person as the author but does not change how utterly impressed I was by the story. I now wish I was in more of your readings because it was so powerful.

Jessica, this was truly the most inspirational story and I could not put it down. I found myself after leaving Greenspun in trying to empower women & went about wrong I guess because I don't get too much response. I have wanted women to look deep within themselves and find that special power, share and support each other instead of tearing each other down. I guess something very special about your blogs have drawn my attention for months and now I read this excerpt of the total package and I am blown away! You have achieved what I have always wanted to and never have on this level. I have mentored young women on the job and even now but nothing compared to what you have been able to achieve. You are amazing.

Novalena,
Thank you for sharing such a personal & sincere experience. The biggest myth of communication, is "Thinking communication has taken place." So often we make assumptions out of Fear of not asking the questions to dispel OUR misconceptions that Hurt, anger or annoy us in female to female relationships. By not asking "Why did/didn't you ______?" We, Females, take turns in Being the "Mean Girl".
I experienced a similar situation with my high school best friend who made a decision to terminate her teenage pregnancy during Roe vs. Wade in the 70's. For many years she thought I judged and condemned her, for what I felt she took a courageous action. What kept me distant and silent all those years was the hurting I felt for her, and the anger I held for her boyfriend. I was unable to express the compassion she so needed, while only imagining the pain & fear she had gone through. She, on the other hand, interpreted my actions as betrayal, rejection and harsh judgement, of which I wasn't aware.
Years later, our lives intersected at a poignant time attending her brother's funeral. We embraced, talked EVERYthing out and cried in each others arms. I drove away regretting the time lost in Not having a close relationship during her journey to the accomplished attorney, wife and mother she had become. I realize I could only nurture our friendship Now and into the future.
When relationships matter, REALLY matter (spouse, partner, family, friends, etc), I have learned to dispel myths, assumptions and bad reflections by talking, Really sharing & baring my soul with sheer honesty and the difficult act...the ability to Forgive. With this comes the risk of feeling the pain (or causing the pain) that honesty and what you call Authenticity, invokes. Of course it's scary, and of course we may experience rejection or insult.
By doing this we can avoid the regret-filled phrases of "If only you had told me!", Or "If Only I had known!". And isn't it worth it to "Clear the Air" and establish Rock solid relationships of Love, Laughter & Meaning that make life Truly worth Living?
Novalena, continue to Shine your Beautiful Light that encourages us, at any age, to Seek Truth and Wisdom!
Thank you for allowing me to reflect on a treasured friendship born long ago.
Mucho Amor,
Rose
